History From the Chicago Park District
The park is named after the ten-term Republican Alderman A.W. Beilfuss (1854-1914). A native of Germany and a printer by trade, Beilfuss was serving as Special Park Commission Chairman at the time of his death. A natatorium (indoor pool) was constructed in 1915, to use the water and excess steam from the nearby pumping station. The pool, known as "The Tank" was very popular throughout the rest of the 20th century, but was razed in 1998. The playground and field were added mid 20th century to increase park recreational activities, with the playlot being updated in 1992. More info >
